Approaches & Medical Philosophy

Following wholistic psychiatrist C. G Jung's 'soul-centred' approach to helping the psyche in crisis, Dr Roberts believes that healing is activated through compassionate, non-authoritarian dialogue which provides a safe, non-judgmental space in which crises, wounds and conflicts can be worked through in the context of the person's unique story and distinctive personal profile. She believes that the whole person - psychospiritual and physical, conscious and unconscious - needs to be respected, nurtured and responded to if crisis resolution is to occur.

Dr Roberts draws on a broad range of approaches and skills, including Jungian psychiatric techniques, dream analysis, active imagination, psychoshamanic methods, art therapy and the midwifing of transformational crises, all with the aim of activating, nurturing and drawing forth the healing potential of the individual. Each person is treated not as a label, or list of symptoms, but as a unique individual with unique needs.

Where appropriate, Dr Roberts refers patients to practitioners of homeopathy, naturopathy, nutritional medicine, massage and acupuncture, which are some of the drug-free therapies which wholistically complement soul-centred psychiatry by helping to address related physical needs.
